About

Please note that The Merchant's Yard has now closed for business.

Since olden times the merchant has enjoyed a position of great power and respect across Russia.

Merchants were given the right to trade in goods across the country, and their travels and culinary discoveries led to exciting taste adventures. Merchants were guaranteed positions of great privilege within society, sharing their stories and the riches of their experiences with family, friends and strangers whose paths they had crossed along the way.

A merchant's reputation and success rested on hospitality. Eagerly awaited invitations would be extended for feasts and celebrations hosted in their backyards. It would be here with the finest and freshest foods and preserves from around the country that their fame would be secured through the deliciousness of the dishes they served.

After ten years in the UK we realised that although the number of Russian shops and communities were growing all over the country – they simply lacked that time-honoured ingredient of 'old-fashioned goodness'. That is how the idea of The Merchant's Yard in London was born, a place where food lovers can buy and try authentic homemade Russian delicacies, prepared with the same loving care and quality you would expect to find at home and in the same time honoured tradition.

Using only the best organic produce, we at The Merchant's Yard have combined traditional recipes from great Russian cooks and chefs and given them a contemporary twist with twenty-first century ideas of healthy eating.
